Winter Survival Shelter – Build overview and waiting for SNOW!

I’ll admit it I am a huge fan of the white stuff. Snow season is my time to shift gears, embrace new challenges and test my limits. With winter knocking at the door, I’ve been racing to finish my winter survival shelter before the first flakes start falling. And trust me, it could happen any day now!

This shelter is inspired by the timeless design of Swedish forest huts. These rustic retreats have been used for centuries by hunters, foragers and adventurers in Sweden’s vast forests. Fun fact: many of these huts are built using traditional techniques like stacking logs tightly and using natural materials, such as lichen, to seal gaps. Lichen isn’t just for decoration it’s a natural insulator and was historically used to keep the cold out and the warmth in.

In this video, I walk you through the basic construction of my winter survival shelter. I’ll share tips on using lichen between the logs, discuss other methods for building a sturdy log shelter, and explain how to make it weatherproof for the harshest conditions. Whether you’re a seasoned survivalist or just curious about Winter shelters, there’s something here for everyone.
