Mountain and Snow camping in the Hennessy Hammock

Last weekend, I decided to throw together a quick overnight trip into the Olympic Mountains. It was a spontaneous adventure, and I packed light, relying on my trusty Hennessy Ultralite Explorer Asym Zip Hammock to keep me comfortable through the night. Little did I know, the mountains had a few challenges in store for me.

The day started late, which is never ideal when you’re racing against daylight in the wilderness. As I ascended the trail, I quickly realized that winter wasn’t quite ready to release its grip on the Olympics. Knee-deep snow covered the path, and the steep 45-degree slope made every step a battle. Without snowshoes, progress was slow and exhausting. By the time the sun began to dip below the horizon, it was clear I wouldn’t make it to my designated campsite for the night.

Fortunately, the mountains provided a solution. The steep slope I was struggling on was densely forested, and where there are trees, there’s hope for a hammock camper like me. I scouted a suitable spot, strung up my Hennessy hammock between two sturdy evergreens, and breathed a sigh of relief. The hammock’s lightweight design and easy setup made it a lifesaver in an otherwise tricky situation. As I settled in for the night, suspended above the snow, I couldn’t help but appreciate the versatility and reliability of my gear.

This trip reinforced my belief that the Hennessy Ultralite Explorer is my go-to sleep system for most of my adventures—provided there are trees, of course. It’s lightweight, easy to set up, and incredibly comfortable, even in less-than-ideal conditions. While the Olympic Mountains tested my limits, they also reminded me why I love exploring the outdoors: the unexpected challenges, the creative problem-solving, and the quiet moments of triumph under the stars.
