It’s been awhile since I posted a video. Winter season this side of the Rockies is proving to be a little lackluster… low snowfall, warm temps and unseasonable rain has made for some interesting conditions up here on the mountain. Gasoline rations, chicken coops and snowmobiles, a little bit of everything on this one.
Winter is coming, and if you heat with wood, NOW is the time to start cutting! In this video, I take on the task of hauling three large trees up a steep mountain using a cable and pulley system all to ensure my off grid homestead stays warm through the coldest months. Living off grid…
In this video Ranger and I spend a night backcountry hammock camping in the trusty 10 year old Hennessy hammock. It took a full days hike to reach our overnight hang spot, a tough grind of both dirt roadways and forest climbs. I build a fire using dead lichen and a ferro rod. The following…
In this video, Doggo and I hit the trail for our first “warm-up cruise” of the snow camping season. Over the years I have learned the importance of making sure all gear and systems are dialed in and functioning properly before diving into more adventurous outings. Snow camping, especially in remote areas can be incredibly…

It’s official… winter is here, and the snow has arrived! In this episode, I dive into the season by shoveling snow, firing up my new (used) snowmobile for its maiden ride, tackling some chicken coop maintenance and embracing my inner human pack mule.
Winter prep mode is in full swing, and the to do list just keeps growing! As the snow season rolls in, my greenhouse has officially become the go-to storage spot for anything that needs to stay dry. Meanwhile I’ve said goodbye to running water on tap (for now) and I also do some brainstorming on…
Thanks to a few of my subs who brought the Cubic Mini Stove to my attention. Since December I have been heating the inside of Winter Shelter using a Mr Heater portable buddy heater. The Buddy heater has been less than ideal… clearly being dependent on propane is not a pathway to being self reliant…
As someone who eats, sleeps and actually lives off grid, I am always looking for new ways to survive and thrive outdoors. I own solar generators, solar panels and have owned the Waterlily water turbine for several months. This portable water turbine can charge all kinds of gear like, cell phones, USB battery banks, camp…
